One of the great French love affairs is consummated daily in the town of Chesnay just outside Paris, but you never read about it in the gossip columns.

It shines forth instead at French dining tables everywhere when families pick up exuberant Sabre flatware created by the husband-and-wife team of Francis and Pascale Gelb, at work over there on the left.

The cheerful colors and patterns splash forth from the brush of Mme Pascale; the whirlagig of production proceeds according to an advanced French principle developed by Francis, known technically as “organized joy.”

Combined result: immediate and measurable rise in attitude-boosting serotonin levels; you’ll see.

Sabre flatware and servingware, in dishwasher-safe 18/19 stainless steel, with handles that remind me of good old Bakelite. Upbeat, and they make you feel younger, too; holding the slightly larger European sizes does that. Mix and match sets to create variety you want.
